Match Report - 02 Nov 2013, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Malgo

Borden returned to league action this week with a fine win over visitors Malgo. Within 5 mins of the start they went in front when Dan Hudson connected first time from a cross from Dan Swann to fire into the roof of the net from 12 yards. This unsettled the visitors and they allowed Borden to take the initiative and play some of their best football of the season. Ten minutes later Swann crossed again and this time Steve Collar was at hand to put his side 2 up and firmly in the driving seat. For the remainder of the half the home side dominated and kept the visitors on the back foot and 3 minutes before the break man of the match Swann found Collar again who scored from close range. The second half was much the same and on 55 mins Collar put Sam Brown through who scored from the edge of the box with a powerful shot. The visitors battled away but any hint of danger was aptly dealt with by Borden’s’ back four consisting of Michael Green, Marc Greene, Ross Frost and Tom Green all of whom were determined to keep a clean sheet. In the 70th minute Collar in search of his hat trick fired in a 25 yard drive which with the keeper well beaten thudded against the foot of the post and rebounded back into the path of Jamie Baverstock who finished in style. The visitors by now had lost their shape and the home side should have racked up more goals Collar was denied his hat trick on more than one occasion but with minutes remaining Baverstock helped himself to his second sealing a comprehensive victory for the villagers
