Match Report - 26 Oct 2013, Borden Village FC Reserves drew with Kennington Reserves

Back to league action for Borden for a visit of Kennington Reserves.
With a a changed squad due to injuries and availability we made 4
changes to last weeks side and this looked to upset the balance as we
looked a little shaky for the first 10-15 minutes. Then we seemed to kick
into gear and started to knock the ball around. Trying to shorten the
game up whenever possible. The dominance started to show with
Baverstock having a chance with a header which went wide and Sills
testing the keeper before the first goal of the game came. Right on the
stroke of half time Rogers tireless work come to fruition after battling
through a couple of challenges and then his heavy touch fell into the
path of Baverstock who used his strength to turn his marker and stroke
the ball home. Trickling over the line after coming off the keeper. This
was no more than we deserved. Borden went into half time 1-0 up.
The second half again wasn't a great start for Borden who gave the ball
away cheaply in the first 10 minutes and Kennington looked to use this
to their advantage and was stretching the play down the wings. This
finally told when 10 minutes or so in the second half the ball was fizzed
across the box where Tutt managed to get a touch on the ball and direct
it into the net via Blackwell. This seemed to fire Borden up though and
the game started to get a bit more physical and a few challenges we're
flying around. A spat of yellow cards followed with a few rash challenges
and players not adhering to instructions given. There was even time for
a red card on his debut when Watson was booked not long after coming
on as sub and a few minutes later got his marching orders after a
second yellow for another rash challenge. Down to ten men for the last
10 minutes gave Kennington the impetus to push on but Neat in the
Borden goal looked formidable and a goal line clearance from Peters
late on secured a point for the village. A disappointing performance after
the last couple of weeks but a point was probably a fair result.
