Match Report

Match Report - 19 Oct 2013, Borden Village FC Reserves beat Platt United

For the second week running Borden Reserves visited a team in a
division above in the cup. We travelled away to Platt United looking to
build on last weeks victory. Again Borden started well looking to play the
ball around and use the width of the Platt pitch. Swan and Kemsley
we're linking up well and it was Swan who provided the ball across goal
for Hudson to tap home to give us the lead. Less than 10 minutes later it
was carbon copy for Hudson as a great ball from Warren allowed
Hudson to slot home again. A great start for Borden. Again Set pieces
came back to haunt us for the fifth time this season as a delivery was
put in and a Platt defender ghosted in to send a bullet header beyond
Neat. However, Borden repeated the process on Platt as a corner from
Swan was headed home by Kemsley to take us 3-1 up at half time.
Borden looked to take the game to Platt, however it was the home side
who picked up their game and really looked to cause Borden some
trouble. Another set piece from Platt provided their second goal with
another player getting free to nod home. With the pressure mounting on
Borden, Neat was really holding off the Platt advance with some great
saves. Hudson had a couple of chances to grab his hat-trick but was
denied by the Platt keeper. As the game drew to a close the win looked
on for Borden but Platt equalised with a few minutes to go to send the
game into extra time.
After making changes and injury to Tong left Borden with only 10 men
for the last 25 minutes of extra time. However with not a lot happening in
the first half of extra time. Goldsmith made an impact on his debut with
what looked like the winning goal. A great ball from Howe was missed by
the keeper which left Goldsmith to spin and slot home. With a few
minutes left a long kick out from Neat was headed into his own net from
the Platt defender in what was an extraordinary own goal. This wrapped
the game up for Borden and puts them into the next round draw.
