Match Report - 19 Oct 2013, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat New Romney
Eager to avenge a defeat at home to New Romney earlier in the season Borden attacked from the outset putting the visitors on the back foot for long periods. Their hard work looked set to pay off when George Latham broke through only to see his effort cannon of the goalkeeper to safety. Borden continued to press but could not find a way to breach a well organised defence The second period saw Borden continue where they left off and with Sam Brown pulling the strings in midfield it was only a matter of time before the home team scored. This came on the hour when the visitors conceded a penalty and Brown stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to put his side in front. Minutes later Steve Collar thought he had increased the lead with a powerful header but the referee consulted the linesman and the goal was disallowed for offside. Ten minutes later Liam Baxindale found some space on the right and delivered a fine ball into the path of Latham who slotted the ball home.. With ten minutes remaining man of the match Brown capped a fine display with a 25 yard drive into the bottom corner. With minutes remaining New Romney grabbed a consolation but it’s the villagers who go through to the next round.
