Match Report - 05 Oct 2013, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Sevenoaks
Sevenoaks tasted defeat for the first time this season at Borden playstool on Saturday. In a very competitive game no quarter was given by either side in the opening stages but after 20 mins it was the home side who broke the deadlock when the visitors failed to clear a corner and Steve Collar fastened on to a loose ball to put his side in front. The visitors came back strongly and 5mins before the break scored an equaliser with a fine chip over the advancing Luke Titshall. Borden introduced striker George Latham at half time and he soon made his presence felt. On 55 mins he swivelled and unleashed a powerful shot which the keeper failed to hold and Lee Hudson was at hand to fire home the rebound. Within 2 mins Borden went further ahead when Latham found himself clean through and coolly planted the ball wide of the advancing keeper. The final quarter saw Sevenoaks up their game and began to create a number of half chances and from one of those a lapse in concentration saw them reduce the arrears. Sevenoaks sensed that they may get something from the game and set out in search of an equaliser but the Borden defence marshalled superbly by new signing Ben Taylor held firm and with ten minutes remaining Latham put the match beyond doubt with his second.
