Match Report - 21 Sep 2013, Borden Village FC Reserves drew with Hawkinge Town

After a long journey to the opponents it looked like the Borden team
we're still on the motorway after the first 10 minutes had finished. We
was overrun chasing the ball down and unorganised from set pieces.
After 12 minutes a ball was swung over from the left back to find the
winger unmarked at the back post to nod back across for Godden to nod
the ball home from close range. The next 10 minutes was much the
same with Borden giving away the ball cheaply and this cost us the next
goal. A sloppy pass that left Howe exposed allowed Howells a free run at
goal. He cooly approached and drilled the ball past Neat into the corner.
Shortly after Spice replaced Graham to try to sure things up and a
change of formation to try to get hold of the ball. Hawkinge still
dominated but we did have some joy down the right hand side and
Howe laid the ball back to Sills who continued his rich vein of form by
spinning and lashing the ball home into the far corner with his trusted left
foot. A 2-1 deficit at half time was more than we deserved. After some
reflection at half time Borden came out with the grit between their teeth.
We was keeping the ball better and getting at the opposition. However
we again switched off at a set piece with the ball falling to Godden to get
his second of the game with another close range finish. This however
was definitely against the run of play. This seemed to spur us on and
again we have showed our fighting spirit by getting back at the
opposition. Hudson laid the ball into the path of Sills and he lashed the
ball home to get his 2nd of the game and 7th of the Season. As the
game drew to a close despite the best efforts of the back four
dominating and Howe and Nelson linking up well it looked like Hawkinge
would hold out for the victory. However with 1 minute to go Howe laid
the ball into Hudson with his back to go from 25-30 yards out spun his
defender and unleashed an unstoppable drive into the far top corner to
equalise and definitely put himself in the running for goal of the season
already. As the game finished 3-3. I would say it was a deserved point
for the second half display but definitely gave the side food for thought
on their focus from the first whistle. The result leaves us unbeaten in 3
games and second in the table. 1 point of top spot.
