Match Report - 07 Sep 2013, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Deal Town Rangers
Borden began the new campaign with a tough fixture against Deal Town Rangers. Managers Nick Brown and Aaron Hodges still managed to field a strong side despite key players missing through injury and suspensions included in the squad was new signing Sam Teague Play was pretty even in the opening stages although it was the home team that took the game to the visitors and began to carve out one or two chances George Latham came close with a looping header and shortly afterwards Taz Baker forced their keeper into making a fine save. Despite the home side having territorial advantage it was the visitors who took the lead after 23 mins, up until then Borden’s keeper Andy Peters had little to do. In one of their rare attacks Deal won a free kick on the edge of the box, the resultant kick was powerfully struck and was still rising when it hit the back of the net even though Peters managed to get a hand to it. Seconds before the break Tommy Price was faced with a 50/50 with the keeper and sheer determination and persistence saw Price slide the ball into the net
Following the break Borden started to look dangerous and took the lead mid way through the half when Sam Teague caught the defence napping firing the ball into the bottom corner with a swiftly taken free kick.
With five minutes remaining Borden put the result beyond doubt when George Latham was clearly impeded by the keeper and the referee immediately pointed to the spot, Latham picked himself up and stroked the ball home to give Borden a deserved win.
