Match Report - 13 Apr 2013, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Park Regis
Borden secured promotion to Division 1 of the Kent County league in an evenly contested derby against local rivals Park Regis. Within 2 mins from the kick off play was suspended for 30 mins after Park Regis’ Dan Bullock sustained a serious ankle injury and was taken to hospital. Once play resumed Borden had the better of exchanges but a sloping pitch coupled by a strong wind made playing conditions difficult. Borden had the lions share of possession but failed to create any clear scoring opportunities so both sides went in level at half time. Following the break and with fifteen minutes remaining a goalless scoreline looked on the cards, but when Borden’s Mark Roberts upended a Park Regis player in the box Regis were awarded a penalty and Roberts was given a red card. Borden were relieved to see the resultant kick miss the target and almost immediately took the lead when George Latham broke away got to the bye line and crossed to Taz Baker who coolly slotted home to win the game for Borden and secure runners up in the league. Borden face Swale United on Tuesday evening still looking for three points in their quest to catch league leaders Sevenoaks.
