Match Report - 29 Mar 2013, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Kennington
Borden won the Weald of Kent Senior Charity Cup 5-4 on penalties after extra time.
Borden’s impressive season continued on Good Friday when they won the Weald of Kent Senior Cup. Division 1 side Kennington settled the quickest and had the better of exchanges and began to look threatening then as the nerves settled Borden began to get hold of the ball and it was their turn to put the pressure on and test the Kennington defence. After 20 mins Borden’s leading marksman George Latham burst into the box and a desperate late tackle saw the referee point to the spot. Up stepped Mark Roberts to plant the ball into the bottom corner to give his side the lead. Kennington hit back strongly and ten minutes before the break levelled by sliding the ball home at the far post. The second period saw both sides with no quarter given but goal scoring opportunities were limited with Borden’s keeper Charlie Donoghue keeping Kennington at bay with some brave goalkeeping whilst at the other end Taz Baker Tommy Price and Latham all went close. During Extra time it was still end to end and Price nearly snatched it with the last kick of the game but his shot shaved the outside of the post so it was down to penalties with Borden’s Sam Brown Mark Roberts Nicky Fuller Daniel Swann all hitting the target but it was left to George Latham to settle it on sudden death. On Easter Monday Borden entertain Guru Nanak as they keep up the chase for the title
