Match Report - 16 Mar 2013, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Swale United
Borden won their way through to the Weald of Kent Senior Cup Final narrowly defeating local rivals Swale Utd by the odd goal in three. From the start play was pretty even with Borden having the better of exchanges but Swale would have taken the lead but were denied by Borden’s keeper Charlie Donohgue who made a fine save from a goal bound shot. With Sam Brown pulling the strings in mid field together with powerhouse Ross Frost winning most of his tackles Borden piled on the pressure and were rewarded after 25 mins when a Brown free kick was flicked on by Frost and George Latham climbed highest to powerfully head home. Following the break Borden looked to build on their lead and on the hour increased their lead when Baxindale threaded a slide rule pass into the path of Taz Baker who scored with a delightful chip over the advancing keeper. Swale refused to give up rallied well and with 17 mins remaining reduced the arrears in so doing setting up an exciting finale but Borden held on to the final whistle to win a place in the final. Borden will meet Kennington in the final on Good Friday 3.15 ko at Ashford.
