Match Report - 09 Feb 2013, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat New Romney
It was back to league duty on Saturday with Borden entertaining New Romney. Play was pretty even in the opening 10 mins but Borden were having the better of exchanges and with 15 mins gone they took the lead when Taz Baker headed home after New Romney failed to clear a corner. Ten Minutes later George Latham pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired home taking his total this season to 15. Shortly before the break Baker who was causing all sorts of problems was upended in the box for a stonewall penalty and up stepped captain Mark Roberts to despatch the ball into the bottom corner. Following the break New Romney refused to give up and worked hard to contain a Borden side who were continually pressing. Mid way through the half the visitors conceded another penalty and Roberts again stepped up to duplicate his earlier kick sending the keeper the wrong way to bury the ball once again into the bottom corner. With ten minutes remaining mid fielder Ross Frost powered his way through to slot the ball past the advancing keeper and seal a comprehensive victory for the villagers. Next week Borden travel away to Guru Nanak in a match which could be crucial to both sides who are neck and neck in the promotion race.
