Match Report - 08 Dec 2012, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Chilham
Borden Village eased themselves into the semi-finals of the Weald of Kent Charity Cup with a 3 1 victory over Canterbury Premier League opponents Chilham. Straight from the kick off Borden attacked strongly and the visitors found themselves a goal down within 5 minutes when George Latham latched on to a through ball to fire past the advancing keeper and into the bottom corner. The visitors composed themselves and began to settle down and although there were a number of exchanges neither side created any real openings for the remainder of the half. Borden started the second half with a lot more determination and effort and began to pin down Chilham for long periods mid way through the half Latham scored again to increase the home sides advantage. Chilham refused to give up and with fifteen minutes left reduced the arrears when a rare defensive error allowed them in to stroke the ball past Borden’s keeper Charlie Donoghue. With ten minutes remaining Borden put the match beyond doubt when Substitute Mat Turner broke free down the left cut inside and from the edge of the box fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner to earn his side a place in the last four.
