Match Report - 03 Nov 2012, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat VCS Sports
Borden faced stiff opposition from R & D Premier opponents VCS Sports who had not been beaten in their league this season. Straight from the kick off the visitors settled quicker than the home side and launched a series of attacks with Borden still finding their feet. Resolute defending kept VCS at bay and Borden began to settle and look more composed on the ball. On the half hour VCS took the lead with a fine shot from the edge of the box but Borden kept probing trying to create openings. A minute before the break VCS scored again and the villagers knew then that they were faced with an uphill task. Borden came out for the second period determined to reduce the arrears and were rewarded mid way through the half when VCS failed to clear and Mark Roberts who spotted the keeper way off his line scored with a delightful side foot volley from 20 yards. The goal unsettled VCS and Borden began to get on top with fifteen minutes remaining George Latham was adjudged to have been fouled just inside the area and the referee pointed to the spot Up stepped Sam Brown who sent the keeper the wrong way to equalise and set up a grand finale Borden were now on top VCS were tiring and with 5 minutes left Borden won a corner VCS failed to clear and the ball fell to Latham who hammered home what turned out to be the winner and his fifth in as many games.
