Match Report - 25 Aug 2012, Borden Village FC Reserves beat Platt United

After an absence of eighteen months the newly formed Reserve side played the first competitive fixture away to Platt in the first round of the Weald of Kent Cup. Straight from the kick off Borden took the game to the home side and attacked strongly. The visitors scored first on 15mins when Nathan Farr shrugged off a challenge and fired into the roof or the net from just inside the box. The goal unsettled the home side and Borden looked the moor likely to add to their tally. Towards the end of the first period Platt began to settle and counter attack and were rewarded with an equaliser on the stroke of half time. The second period started fairly evenly but Borden were having the better of exchanges and mid way through the half Farr claimed his second to edge his side in front Platt rallied again and ten minutes later equalised to set up an exciting finale. With ten minutes remaining Farr who was proving to be a handful to the home defence found some space but was denied his hat trick by a fine save from the keeper however the ball broke loose in the six yard box and Calvin Sills was first to react and hammered home giving his side a well deserved victory. Afterwards the new management team of John Blunden and Aaron Grey said they were pleased to win the first match and were convinced that all the hard work that was put in by the players pre season had in their view paid off and both were looking to next week the start of their league campaign
