Match Report - 25 Feb 2012, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to HAWKENBURY

Borden started the game brightly creating a number of openings but were unable to penetrate a resilient home defence. Play was pretty even throughout the first period and it was the visitors who almost went in front when Tom Green found some space in the box but his goal bound effort was saved by the home keeper. At the other end Borden’s stand in keeper Mark Barker kept a clean sheet and looked comfortable with some safe handling. Although there was no goals in the first period the home side could consider themselves fortunate to go in on level terms as desperate defending and poor finishing kept Borden at bay. After giving a solid performance first half Borden only minutes had passed when Hawkenbury scored a goal out of nothing when a deep centre come shot deceived Barker and the ball looped over his head to give the home side the lead. Minutes later Borden conceded a corner and poor marking allowed the home side to increase their lead with a header from six yards. With ten minutes left and Borden pushing forward the home side netted a third and once again they returned home empty handed.
