Match Report - 07 Jan 2012, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Larkfield and new hythe wanderers

Borden’s first home match in 2012 ended in a disappointing score line against mid table Larkfield . With Lijah Tucker suspended for 1 game and Mark Barker, Nicky Fuller, and Darren Delport unavailable, Knocker Williams included James Bonney and sixteen year old Nathan Yates. Borden started well taking the game to the visitors and were rewarded by taking the lead after 15 minutes with a well worked goal. Borden’s Tom Green won the ball in midfield and gave the ball to Joe Jones who in turn found David White and kept running White then threaded an inch perfect ball through to Jones who fired past the advancing keeper to put his side 1 up. Ten minutes later the Borden defence failed to deal with a cross and the opposition ran through to level the scores. The second period started fairly evenly but as the home side pressed they exposed themselves to Larkfield counter attacks and mid way through the half, with the Borden defence standing still appealing for offside Larkfield scored The referee went to the linesman who was overruled and Borden found themselves chasing the game. For a spell Borden looked like equalising and twice Jones found himself on a one and one with only the keeper to beat but Larkfield managed to clear their lines. With fifteen minutes to go the home side gave away a needless penalty which the visitors converted and it was effectively game over. The only consolation for Borden is that new signing Dave White had an impressive game with ability to play some deft through balls and his tireless work rate
