Match Report - 19 Nov 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Greenhill

Borden travelled to Canterbury still searching for that elusive away win but it was destined not to be The Villagers started well and within ten minutes Ricky Law latched on to a half volley on the edge of the box but blazed his shot inches wide Mid way through the half the Borden defence failed to clear a corner and the home side edged in front following a goalmouth scramble Play was pretty even and Nicky Fuller nearly levelled but his header missed the target when well placed. Following the break there was little to chose between the two sides when from outside the box the hard working Darren Delport spotted the keeper off his line and volleyed a cracking goal from 35yards,his first in County football. The goal gave Borden the incentive to push on and the home side were now on the back foot. With fifteen minutes left young Tom Green came on for Delport and within minutes he won the ball and found Joe Jones on the edge of the area Jones wriggled free from two defenders swiftly turned and smashed a half volley past the advancing keeper to put Borden in the driving seat With the referee looking at his watch and Borden looking to bag three points disaster struck when Dan Mills' firm clearance took a wicked deflection the ball fell to the feet of a Greenhill forward who tucked the ball away giving keeper Michael Neat no chance. Afterwards manager Knocker Williams said “ I am very disappointed more so for the lads who put all that effort in only to concede a fluke goal in the last minute.”
