Match Report - 05 Nov 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with PLATT UNITED
The spoils were shared in this bottom of the table clash between Borden and fellow strugglers Platt. The home side strengthened by the return of 3 players who were unavailable last week started brightly and soon had the visitors under pressure. Within ten minutes Borden were awarded a free kick Doug Emmett floated the ball in and Joe Jones headed powerfully past the keeper only to see the ball hit the underside of the cross bar and was scrambled away to safety. Ten minutes later Slovak Tomas Babik found some space and his 25 yarder also hit the crossbar and rebound to safety with the keeper well beaten. After twenty minutes Mark Barker signalled to the bench that he had pulled up and was replaced by Andy Bowen which meant a big reshuffle and an unwelcome interruption to the flowing football that Borden were playing With Dan Mills working hard in midfield and the Borden defence looking solid Platt were a little fortunate in going in on level terms at half time. Following the break the home side were still dominating but the final killer ball was missing. On the hour Borden eventually took a deserved lead when 18 year old Aiden Jewiss headed home from a corner. Straight from the restart disaster for the home side when Platt latched on to a casual back pass and the on rushing keeper Michael Neat was adjudged to have made contact and Platt equalised from the resultant penalty With time running out the home side attacked strongly but resolute defending kept them out and both sides had to settle for a point.
