Match Report

Match Report - 29 Oct 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Malgo

Long term injuries coupled with work commitments are preventing Borden from fielding a competitive side so far this term, and results like this do not help in terms of generating the enthusiasm and willingness to turn out week in and week out. Manager Knocker Williams had to make 2 last minute signings on Saturday so as to be able to field a side and so fulfil the fixture. To be fair with a bare eleven players, one of them a sixteen year old the Borden team should be proud of the way that they battled against high flying Malgo. Resolute defending and sheer hard work kept the home side out and with keeper Michael Neat having an outstanding game Borden managed to get to the break without conceding. Minutes after the restart Malgo eventually broke the deadlock and added a second shortly after, but all credit to the Borden side who never gave up and although a third goal was conceded mid way through the half the scoreline remained the same until 5 mins from the end when a Malgo added two more. Next week Borden are at home to fellow strugglers Platt Utd and with a number of players returning it will offer the opportunity to bounce back and hopefully pick up some valuable points
