Match Report - 01 Oct 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to HAWKENBURY
Borden travelled back from Tunbridge Wells with their tails between their legs after being comprehensively beaten by lively Hawkenbury Within 3 mins from the start the visitors found themselves a goal down and conceded a second 5 mins later. Following this disastrous start it was always going to be an uphill struggle and Borden found the home team difficult to contain and in return offered little. Mid way through the half Hawkenbury scored a third and from then on the writing was on the wall. Borden’s keeper Michael Neat had been unwell for three days and should not have started but as stand in keeper Nick Brown was delayed at work he had no alternative but to play. Following the break Borden came out and started to put one or two moves together and after ten minutes pulled one back through the hard working Phil Jackson, the goal gave the team a lift and it looked as though it would be game on when Dan Mills put Joe Jones through on a one on one and having drawn the keeper he looked certain to score but saw his effort roll agonisingly wide of the post. Within minutes a swift break by the home side resulted in them scoring a fourth and effectively killing the game off. Heads dropped and mistakes were made and Borden effectively were in disarray The home side scored again, and Phil Jackson once again found the net but Hawkenbury followed up with a further three in the final ten minutes, to deliver on balance a slightly flattering score line.
