Match Report - 08 Oct 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Cliffe Woods
Borden failed to get through to the next round of the Kent Junior Cup by losing to the odd goal in 5 to a very good footballing side who are so far unbeaten in the Premier Division of the Rochester & District Football League. The visitors started well and looked comfortable on the ball from the outset and during the first twenty minutes they maintained possession making it difficult for the home side .However it was Borden who opened the scoring after Lijah Tucker was impeded and Borden were awarded a free kick. Nick Brown floated the ball deep into the box and Mark Barker climbed highest to powerfully head home. Cliffe Woods continued playing football and pressed Borden looking for an equaliser and within ten minutes they were level playing a wonderful one two resulting in a cool chip over Bordens debut keeper David Parris. Minutes before the break Borden edged in front again when the visitors failed to clear their lines and Christian Hillyard was at hand to force the ball home from 6 yards. The second half was similar to the first with the visitors having long spells of possession and on the hour got back on level terms when Parris did well to keep out a fierce shot but the ball fell to the feet of the same player who this time made no mistake. With ten minutes remaining Tomas Babik got round the back of their defence and was brought down but referee Lenny Smith waived away appeals for a penalty despite the official linesman flagging the foul. The ball was immediately cleared and the visitors broke swiftly and Borden then conceded what turned out to be the winner.
