Match Report - 10 Sep 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Hadlow Evolution
Borden entertained league newcomers Hadlow and for the second week running went down to the odd goal in five. The visitors started well and took the game to Borden during the early exchanges and after 15 mins were rewarded by playing a neat one two and sliding the ball past keeper Michael Neat. The goal seemed to unsettle Borden and five minutes later Hadlow added a second due to some sloppy defending. Borden seemed to struggle to keep hold of the ball and Hadlow determined not to allow Borden to settle worked hard and were rewarded with a third just before the break.
Managers Knocker Williams and Ian Jackson obviously had a few words to say at half-time and it was a different Borden that came out for the second period. Young Tom Green started to find his feet in mid-field and Dan Mills and Phil Jackson upped their workrate After fifteen mins Borden won a corner on the right the ball was partially cleared and found its way to captain Mark Barker who sidestepped his marker and fired into the bottom corner from ten yards. This gave Borden the lift they needed and on the half hour they won a corner on the right Thomas Babik floated the ball in and Ashley Yates was at the far post to force the ball over the line. It was a different Borden now and with the visitors desperately defending a Yates almost equalised but his powerful header went the wrong side of the post, eventually time ran out and Borden once again finished empty handed.
