Match Report - 02 Apr 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat tenterden town

The win gained on Saturday at the expense of fellow strugglers Tenterten, enabled Borden to climb further up the table and away from the threat of re-election. The visitors missing regulars captain Mark Barker and defender Nicky Fuller, busy preparing for the London Marathon, started the game brightly pegging the home side back for the first fifteen minutes and looking dangerous every time they went forward Midway through the half Borden took a deserved lead when Sam Brown floated a corner toward the near post and Elijah Tucker climbed the highest to head home. Town rallied for a while and on the half hour a swift counter attack produced the equaliser. Seconds before the break Borden looked to be in trouble when Aiden Jewiss was adjudged to have impeded a Town player and the referee pointed to the spot. The resultant kick was well struck but Borden’s keeper Michael Neat pulled off a tremendous save by diving down to his right and palming the ball away to safety. The second period saw Borden looking to seal the game, both Brown and Tucker went close but with fifteen minutes remaining the Borden won a corner as the corner came in Chris Feliniak touched it on and the ball dropped to young Jewiss who smashed an unstoppable volley into the roof of the net from 10 yards. The goal proved worthy of the match winner, and Borden returned home with 3 valuable points
