Match Report - 19 Mar 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Broadstairs
Borden moved two places up the table and out of the drop zone by beating fellow strugglers Broadstairs on Saturday. With Nick Brown and Mark Barker absent through injury meant that teenagers Aiden Jewiss and James Bonney were at the heart of the Borden defence. But It was the home side that started the brightest by attacking strongly from the start and took a deserved lead after fifteen minutes when they won a free kick on the edge of the box. Up stepped Sam Brown who found a gap in the wall and struck a well taken shot into the bottom corner to put his side in front. The visitors rarely troubled Borden and ten minutes later Dan Mills latched on to a loose ball on the edge of the box and fired in a fierce drive which flew into the net off the underside of the crossbar. For the remainder of the half Borden tried to add to their tally but some resolute defending kept the home forwards at bay. Following the break Broadstairs made some changes and began to cause some problems for the Borden defence and mid way through the half managed to pull reduce the arrears. Five minutes later Borden scored a third when Lijah Tucker found some space on the right and his cross was met by Adam Roxborough who found the net on the half volley from fifteen yards. Borden should have added to their tally but Sam Brown saw his shot hit the post and rebound into play with the keeper well beaten, but all in all it was three valuable points for Borden in their quest for safety.
