Match Report - 05 Mar 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat Saga Sports & Social
High flying Saga were sent home Saturday having suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of the villagers. Saga who had lost only one game in the league all season, found themselves a goal down after ten minutes when Borden’s Lijah Tucker outstripped the defence took the ball past the advancing keeper, who brought him down for a stonewall penalty. The keeper was cautioned but Saga were relieved to see him stay on the field and take up his position to face the resulting kick, but was sent the wrong way as Borden’s Nick Brown stepped up to the plate and coolly stroked home the penalty. Borden were playing the far better football and began to control the mid field closing down Saga and not allowing them to play. Ten minutes later they won a corner Adam Roxborough floated the ball in but the keeper failed to gather, and Chris Feliniak was first to react by pouncing on the loose ball and ramming home from 5 yards. The home side were now playing with bundles of confidence and on the half hour the ever dangerous Tucker scored a superb third by executing an exquisite chip over the advancing keeper to put his side further ahead. Ten minutes before the break a shell shocked Saga conceded another one of their players headed in to his own net with his keeper out of position, to send Borden in at half time with a four goal advantage. The second half saw Saga throw everyone forward in an effort to save something and mid way through the half they managed to pull one back, but Borden still created the better chances and both Sam Brown and Matt Turner had goal bound efforts turned away two point blank saves, but it was Borden’s day and they ran out worthy winners.
