Match Report - 15 Jan 2011, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Broadstairs
Having not played for 5 weeks Borden started their new Year campaign with the long trip to Broadstairs The result of such a long break was evident to with both teams lacking sharpness due to the lack of match practice. During the opening 20 mins Broadstairs took the game to Borden but the villagers held firm with central defenders Chris Feliniak and James Bonney snuffing out any real danger. At the other end Borden’s Lijah Tucker ploughed a lone furrow up front, and by half time the game had a scoreless draw written all over it. After the break Borden looked the most likely to edge it with Jay Law seeing his shot go the wrong side of the post and Glen Smith had a goal bound effort which was deflected for a corner. The last ten minutes saw the home side making some desperate clearances, but at the same time Boren’s keeper Michael Neat made a critical save by diving at the feet of an inrushing forward but the end of the day the resulting draw seemed a fair result for both teams. Borden’s Ricky Law had a fine game whilst Dan Mills and Nicky Fuller worked tirelessly throughout without reward.
