Match Report - 13 Nov 2010, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to lydd town

Borden travelled to Lydd in search of their first away win and came back once again empty handed. With Chris Feliniak and Glen Smith still out injured the Borden squad was even further depleted with Dan Mills unavailable and striker Elijah Tucker dropping out at the last minute due to illness. Nevertheless Borden held their own in the first half hour against a strong Lydd side who were unbeaten in their last four games but they went behind on the half hour when the ball fell to a Lydd player who made no mistake from twelve yards Ten minutes later Borden had strong appeals for penalty turned down following a blatant handball which everyone watching seemed to see but the referee Just before the break they fell further behind and were then faced with an uphill task After half time they set out to reduce the arrears and were unlucky not to do so when Jay law beat the home keeper only to see his shot crash against the foot of an upright and rebound to safety. Mid way through the half Lydd won a free kick on the edge of the box from which they scored a third to put the game beyond doubt Shortly afterwards Borden pulled one back through Adam Roxborough but any hopes of a comeback disappeared when they were reduced to ten men when Nicky Fuller was at the wrong end of an elbow and having lost a tooth in the incident had to come off to seek urgent dental treatment Minutes later Borden were down to nine men when James Bonney was carried off with a knee injury. Borden were now outnumbered and in the minutes remaining Lydd made use of superior numbers by adding a further two goals
