Match Report - 18 Sep 2010, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to HAWKENBURY
Borden threw away an opportunity to climb the table on Saturday despite building a two goal advantage midway through the first half. They were a goal up in the very first minute when a Lee Sayer free kick skimmed off the head of a home defender and flew past the keeper into the net. Within ten minutes the home side had equalised when a forward skipped past two defenders and planted the ball past the helpless Michael Neat. Five minutes later Borden restored their lead when Hawkenbury failed to clear a corner and Glen Smith scored with a cheekey back heel from inside the six yard box. Borden were now in the driving seat and on the half hour extended their lead when Sam Brown delivered a ball into the box and Chris Feliniak scored with a superb diving header. Seconds before the break the home side managed to reduce the arrears and that gave them the lift to came out in the second half in search of an equaliser Within ten minutes they were level and although Borden had a number of half chances it was Hawkenbury who capitalised on a defensive error to snatch the winner. Afterwards joint managers Knocker Williams and Ian Jackson said that “To score three goals away from home come away with nothing is tough to deal with and the expression on the lads faces says it all. We are all very disappointed but at least we know that three of their goals were down poor defending and lack of concentration but we are still finding our feet with a number of new players and its something we can work on in training and hopefully learn by it.
