Match Report - 10 Apr 2010, Borden Village FC 1st XI beat HAWKENBURY

Borden set about the task off redressing the balance having recently been narrowly beaten by Hawkenbury in the away fixture. After 8 mins there seemed little threat to the visitors when Sam Brown received the ball in mid field but his sheer persistence enabled him to thread a through ball to Jay Law who shrugged off his marker set himself up to shoot only to be brought down in the box by a late tackle and the referee pointed to the spot. Captain Mark Barker sent the keeper the wrong way to put the home side ahead and from then on Borden took command and dominated the remainder of the half However trying to penetrate the visitors resilient defence proved difficult and resulted in few opportunities. After the break Borden stepped up gear and ten minutes after the restart Barker found the lively Jay Law out wide on the right who crossed the ball and Nicky Fuller was at the far post to gratefully accept. Ten minutes later the home side put the result beyond doubt when young Sam Brown growing in confidence with every game supplied Ashleigh Taylor just inside the opponents half Taylor sped away closed in on goal and unleashed a fierce drive which the goalkeeper could only help into the net. With the game all but over Hawkenbury got a consolation goal but the three points belonged to Borden. Afterwards the management team Knocker Williams and Ian Jackson said “Our players deserve all the plaudits we now have an agenda to win all our remaining games to finish as high in the league as possible and we are looking forward our local derby at home to Swale United on Tuesday evening”
