Match Report - 23 Jan 2010, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Bredhurst Juniors

After a 6 weeks without a game Borden welcomed ex- Milton coach Ian Jackson to the Management team and he watched the home side start well against a strong and high flying Bredhurst side. With both sides creating openings it was Borden who went in front after 25 minutes when Ashley Taylor drove home from the edge of the box Five minutes later striker Lee Marsh looked certain to increase the lead but his goal bound effort was blocked by the advancing keeper. Borden looked to take control but a defensive error allowed the visitors back in with a soft goal Five minutes before the break they edged in front again when Dan Mills smashed the ball into the roof of the net from 12 yards Seconds before the break another lapse in concentration allowed Bredhurst to score a second and the teams went in all square. Minutes after the restart it was the visitors who took the lead for the first time and they seemed to get stronger as they took hold of the midfield demonstrating why they were currently second placed in the league. Mid way through the half came the goal of the match when a 25 yard pile driver saw them increase their lead and from then on it was effectively game over. In the dying minutes with Borden pushing on Bredhurst added a fifth giving them a slightly flattering score line and leaving Borden wondering what might have been had they not gifted them so many goals
