Match Report

Match Report - 31 Oct 2009, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Lydd Town

Borden started badly in the opening period allowing the visitors to make the early running and in most areas of the field they were second best Lydd set up a series of moves causing the home defence a number of problems and after 16 mins they took a deserved lead although the goal had an element of luck when Borden’s keeper Michael Neat looked as though he had dealt competently with a deep free kick only to see the ball slip through his hands and drop into the empty net Five minutes later things got worse for the home side when James Beech was dismissed from the field of play for a late challenge and Borden were reduced to ten men. Immediately manager Knocker Williams reverted to one lone striker up front and for the remainder of the half Borden were kept busy dealing with the lively visitors

Borden came out for the second half determined to put things right and began to put pressure on the visitors Mark Barker went close and Lee Marsh worked hard trying to impose a threat The equaliser came mid way through the half when Mark Barker slid a slide rule pass through to Phil Jackson who stayed composed and fired a fine shot past the advancing keeper. Suddenly the tables were turned and it was Borden’s turn to pile on the pressure they even could have snatched it in the dying minutes when Nicky Fuller looked certain to score only to see the ball blocked on the line and scrambled away to see the points shared
