Match Report - 05 Dec 2009, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to saga sport and social
Borden suffered their third league defeat of the season at the hands of league leaders SAGA There was some doubt as to whether the match would be played as the pitch resembled a ploughed field but in the opening stages the visitors adapted to the conditions well Borden tried to play football but the home side elected for the more direct approach and this paid off after fifteen minutes when a ball over the top caught out Borden and they found themselves a goal down against the run of play. Borden continued to play the passing game and within 5 mins of the restart were rewarded with an equaliser when Alex Sammy making his debut opened his account with a powerful shot which took a deflection over the stranded keeper. Ten minutes before the break Borden conceded again when their keeper Michael Neat was beaten by a tremendous shot from long range Just after the restart Borden were caught out again and were then faced with an uphill climb but they refused to give up and pressure on the home defence led to Lee Marsh reducing the arrears In the final stages of the game and in an effort to salvage a point Borden’s manager Knocker Williams pushed more men forward and with seconds remaining they were caught again on the break and SAGA scored to put the match beyond doubt to reflect a somewhat flattering scoreline.
