Match Report - 10 Oct 2009, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to Breadhurst Juniors FC

Borden paid the penalty for missed chances and were knocked out of the Kent Junior Cup by fellow County side Bredhurst The home side were under attack straight from the kick off and were a goal down after only 4 mins when Borden’s keeper Michael Neat was beaten by a deflected strike from 25yards The goal woke them up and from the restart they set out in search of an equaliser For long periods the visitors were made to defend resolutely and Borden almost equalised when Dan Mills found Ashleigh Taylor out wide and from his resultant cross Alan Whitehead headed narrowly wide Borden piled on the pressure and an equaliser looked a certainty but a Lee Marsh effort hit the crossbar and an Andy Peters header was well saved by the visitors keeper Seconds later Phil Jackson thought he had equalised but his shot hit the foot of the post and rebound to safety with the keeper beaten

The majority of the second period saw both sides creating half chances but defences held firm with Borden’s Nicky Fuller being the pick of the home back four Another chance set up Phil Jackson abut his shot screwed agonisingly wide of the upright Being a cup match and with ten minutes remaining Borden threw caution to the wind and piled men forward but failed to deal with a long punt up field and a defensive mix up saw the ball roll slowly over the line and effectively seal the game for Bredhurst During time added on they scored again to create a flattering score line and leaving Borden to reflect on a day of missed chances

Afterwards a bemused Knocker Williams said that there was no excuses he went on to say that “ Today we created at least 6 good openings in front of goal and failed to convert any of them, this is something I will discuss with the lads at training and try and work on it Overall the lads played well and this may sound biased but all 3 of their goals had an element of luck.I am looking forward to playing them in the league to see if I am proved right by saying that the score line flattered them”
