Match Report

Match Report - 05 Sep 2009, Borden Village FC 1st XI drew with Hamstreet

For their first game of the new campaign Borden travelled to Ashford to face league newcomers Hamstreet. It was a new look Borden who took to the field and debuts were given to close season signings Lee Marsh, Dan Bryant, Andy Peters, and Ashley Taylor During the opening period Borden found themselves kicking up the sloping pitch and Hamstreet, who finished last season as Champions of the Ashford & District league, had their work cut out as Borden took the initiative After 16 minutes they took a deserved lead when Ashley Taylor floated in a perfectly flighted free kick which found the head of Chris Feliniak who flicked it on and teenager Bryant ran in at the far post to slot home his first goal for the club. Hamstreet reacted with a direct approach and had some success down the right which resulted a couple of half chances, but Borden’s keeper Michael Neat handled competently to keep the home side at bay The second period started fairly evenly but as the visitors pressed to add to their tally Hamstreet broke away and despite appeals for offside the home side striker found the net to equalise For the remainder of the game there was little to chose between the sides but during one of the final passages of play Borden almost stole the points when Jamie Kurszewski wriggled free and unleashed a goal bound shot which resulted in the home side keeper producing a tremendous save and ensuring the points were shared
