Match Report - 01 Aug 2009, Borden Village FC 1st XI lost to RAMSGATE RESERVES
Borden acquitted themselves well in their first pre season friendly against Kent league side Ramsgate Res. which ended in a 1 goal defeat. Straight from the kick off the visitors who fielded at least three players with Ryman League experience, took the initiative and Borden soon realised that plenty of effort and hard work would be required in order to contain the visitors who were well organised and composed on the ball. The first half hour belonged to Ramsgate who took the lead ten minutes before half time with a strong run down the right and the ball being perfectly delivered into the danger area where a Ramsgate forward was on hand to tuck the ball away from six yards. Minutes later Borden almost levelled when Ashley Taylor delivered a fine free kick to the far post and Mark Barker’s header flew narrowly wide. The second half saw Borden grow in confidence with new signings Lee Marsh and Dan Mills both prominent. Following the break Borden brought on fresh legs by way of Chris Feliniak and Jay Law, and the changes began to unsettle what looked to be a tiring Ramsgate Lee Marsh had a goal bound header tipped over and Jay Law shot into the keepers arms after shrugging off the Ramsgate defence Borden finished the stronger and the last ten minutes saw some desperate defending by the visitors whose defence held firm to give them a narrow victory. Afterwards Borden’s manager Knocker Williams said that he was delighted with the way his new look side played, and was looking forward to the new season.
