Borden Village FC - Risk Assessment

Covid-19 Risk Assessment

Borden Village Football Club

Planned return to training and competitive football matches

Borden Village Football Club has prepared this document by drawing on the current Government guidance outlining preparations for a return to training and competitive football matches.

Together with the attached Risk Assessment this will allow the club to ensure safe and effective preparation of match-day facilities, pre-match processes and ensure that all matches are undertaken with reduced risk to players, officials, club representatives and supporters.

All players, officials, and club officials will undergo a self assessment for any Covid-19 symptoms. Club personnel will be advised not leave home to participate in football if they, or someone they live with, have any of the following:

  • A high temperature (above 37.8C)

  • A new, continuous cough

  • A loss of, or change to, their sense of smell or taste.

Hazard Identification

Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is an infectious disease caused by a recently discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with Covid-19 will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring treatment. The elderly and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

The Covi-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

Who could be affected and how?

Anyone can contract the disease through exposure. Although higher risk groups have been identified it is unknown how each individual will respond to the infection and guidance is constantly changing.

Poor hygiene is likely to increase transmission of the virus. Face to face contact with lots of people is also likely to increase infection rates.

Club Facilities at The Playstool

Borden Village Football Club will support the NHS Test and Trace by collecting names and contact details of participants at both training and competitive matches. The information will be stored for a minimum of 21 days in line with the Government Recreational Team Sport Framework and collected/processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and in line with GDPR principles. This will only be used for the purpose of NHS Test and Trace.

In preparation for the return to training and competitive matches Borden Village Football Club has introduced an intensive cleaning regime to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection. Prior to the return of training and competitive matches at The Playstool the facilities have been subject to a deep clean by an external cleaning provider. All match equipment will be sanitised prior to each session and additional sanitiser made available for players and officials on arrival. Disposable paper towels will be available and bins provided for their safe disposal. All equipment will be cleaned at the end of each event in readiness for its next use. Following approval to use the indoor facilities a cleaning programme will ensure it is clean for re-use.  Access to toilet facilities will be single use and entry controlled by Borden Village committee members. Consideration will be given to the use of disabled facilities.

Training

Club training will be conducted in accordance with FA guidance.

Numbers restricted to 30 people including coaching staff.

Participants will arrive changed and be expected to shower at home. The club changing rooms and showers will not be available during training sessions. Access to the toilet facilities will be permitted and controlled to single use.

Temperature checks will be taken of all participants and recorded using the attached ‘Advice Briefing’ form. Records will be held by the club secretary for 21 days and only be accessed following a ‘Positive’ Covid-19 test.

Social distancing will be observed during the session and all participants encouraged to wash hands/sanitise before, during and after the session.

Away Matches

Borden Village Football Club will ensure that when travelling to away matches the scheduled opponents have a suitable risk assessment in place that follows Covid-19 guidance.  Confirmation of this will be made when making the final arrangement for the fixture to ensure that appropriate precautions are in place to ensure the safety of Borden Village players and staff. Travel arrangements will be made to ensure social distancing and other mechanisms are in place. Portable hand sanitiser, paper towels and a method of safe disposal will be made available for all players and coaching staff.

Competitive Football Matches

Covid-19 is a highly infectious and dangerous disease. Play will only be achievable if all those involved create and maintain a controlled environment that will minimise the threat of infection.

The risk of infection cannot be completely eradicated but with caution and care from of all involved the risks can be significantly reduced.

Each player will themselves will need to decide if and when they can return to contact football, based on their own circumstances and the arrangements that have been put in place by Borden Village Football Club and others for a safe return.

All those returning to competitive football must adopt the following code of behaviour:

Be aware of your own personal health

If you show any of the Covid-19 symptoms you must stay at home, inform the NHS Test and Trace and seek medical advice.

Be responsible

Read the guidance provided by the FA and on the Borden Village Football Club Website so that you are aware of the changes to the game and what is expected of you. This will include things like being prepared to wash your own kit, bringing your own labelled water bottle and being aware of changes to meet-up times etc.

Practice good hygiene
Wash/sanitise your hands regularly and especially before, during and after each game.

Where possible maintain social distancing

This will not always be possible in a competitive match environment (for example when tackling an opponent) and that is acceptable. However, before, and after a game you should maintain social distancing.

Support NHS Test and Trace

You will be asked to provide your details so that in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak those potentially infected can be traced. It is to everyone’s benefit to cooperate with this.

Do not spit

Spitting and the rinsing out of mouths is now a recognised risk to health and must not be done.  Also avoid shouting or raising your voice if face to face with other players.

After the game

Be aware that other users may be waiting to use the facilities. Changing rooms and showers are likely to be closed until advised otherwise and any socialising must follow the government guidance on social distancing. Access to the toilet facilities will be permitted, but restricted to single use.

Training Activities Risk Assessment
Competitive training will take place in an outdoor setting with a group not exceeding 30 people                                                           (including coaching staff).
